Fugo Plasma Blade Technology
Fugo Plasma Blade Technology
The plasma blade, also known as the Fugo blade, is the first plasma ablation system that can create precise low-energy incisions on the ocular surface and within the human eye. Dr. RichardJ. Fugo is the inventor of the Fugo Blade. It is recommended for capsulotomy, iridotomy and transciliary filtration. The Fugo Blade a battery-powered electrosurgical device to perform anterior capsulotomy for cataract surgery, employing an incising filament as thin as a human hair. When the Fugo Blade came on the scene, Dr. Daljit Singh of Amritsar, India, revived the idea of filtering aqueous from the posterior chamber. He observed that the ablation ability of the plasma cloud column around the Fugo Blade tip created a non-cauterizing homeostasis when he performed surgery in bloody tissue, such as oculo-plastics and soft-tissue incisions. With this insight, Dr. Singh proceeded to develop the procedure that we know refer to a Singh Filteration or TCF or MTF.Dr. Singh has emphasighed that the importance of this procedure lies in patient safety, low tissue surgical trauma, quich surgical time, easy revision of closed filteration tracks.a lack of interior chamber collapse, no premature cararact formation (unlike conventional trabeculectomies),less postoperative chair time and surgical-filtering procedure that all anterior-segment sutgeons can perform in a comfortable fashion. It is a great tool for mass glaucoma surgery with in a limited time period at free eye camps meant for poor patients in 3rd world countries like Pakistan & India.Dr. Irfan Kundi is the only trained eye surgeon in Pakistan, performing all sorts of eye operations with this great tool in particular glaucoma filteration procedures.
